VOICE LESSONS

Looking to improve your singing skills? Cheryl’s teaching approach is warm and collaborative. Repertoire and exercises are individually tailored for each individual, emphasizing the singer’s favorite or preferred style, whether Opera, Broadway, Oratorio, or Choral music. She emphasizes learning through the use of chosen songs as exercises.

Her vocal technique is rooted in the Bel Canto method. The fundamentals of good breath support, loose lips, tongue and jaw, and an open throat are the basics of her teaching. She works to develop both a student’s vocal technique AND musicianship.

Cheryl works with all levels of vocal expertise. She starts each student with some vocalizing to understand the current vocal range and level of musicianship. She emphasizes learning the concepts with a few exercises and repetitions, and then she spends at least half of the lesson practicing songs. Her philosophy is that learning should be fun; making music is joyous and is at the heart of all sessions

Cheryl has served as a faculty member for 9 years at the San Francisco’s Girl’s Chorus teaching students from middle school to adults. Whether there or in her individual practice, her students have learned how to be choral singers and soloists, with many going on to perform in musical theater, opera, jazz and a capella ensembles.
